Types of Inkjet Cartridges

There are different types of inkjet cartridges that work with different printers. It is best to do some research on the type of inkjet cartridge used, as well as the prices charged, before purchasing a printer. You may find a really good deal on a printer only to discover later that it costs you more to replace the inkjet cartridges than you paid for the printer to begin with.

The main types of inkjet cartridges are black, photo, tri-color and individual color cartridges. In printers that use photo cartridges, the photo cartridge is usually inserted where the black cartridge would normally go. When you are printing a photo or something else that requires a high-quality print, switch to the photo cartridge if your model of printer supports it. For normal printing, you will save money by using the regular black cartridge instead of the photo cartridge.

If you want to save money on ink, look for a printer that has separate cartridges for each color instead of one tri-color inkjet cartridge. The tri-color cartridge is never completely used up because you always run out of one color of ink before the others. A little bit of ink is wasted each time you have to change the cartridge. With individual color cartridges, no ink is wasted because you only need to change the color that has run out.

In addition to inkjet cartridges for regular printing, there are specialty inkjet cartridges available for some printers that contain special ink for printing on fabrics. These are sublimation inkjet cartridges, and they usually require special software and paper as well as a heat source to transfer the design to the fabric.
